Facilities & Resources
When it comes to facilities and resources, Yosefe is much better off than Mkasanga. While it has a well stocked library that is open to the wider community and classrooms that are equipped with desks and textbooks, Yosefe still has challenges to overcome. These are:
- Large class sizes mean a shift system must be operated
- The school does not yet have electricity
- Lending books to students to take home remains a risk as books will get damaged
Yosefe has already prepared a plan for supplying electricity to the school. The urgent priority now is to relieve the pressure on the shift system and teachers by building a new classroom block. Using funds from First Sparks, the building of new classrooms is already underway. Following on from this, the school wants to provide students with simple book bags, to enable them to take their books home to study.
